We propose to transform a mere seafront into a “common place” where the inhabitants of Altea could meet and recognize each other. We understand that IDENTITY is the main agglutinating agent in any social environment and is created by the superposition of multiple collective (cultural) and individual (subjective) identities. In this way, this new part of the seafront should be designed not only as a PLACE OF MEETING but as a PLACE OF UNCERTAINTY. In short, we propose a comfortable, diverse, fully equipped and inclusive space where future users invent the way to use it.
The section of this new space understands the natural connection with the beach and the sea as a fundamental requirement. In this way you can access the beach along the entire front and in no case the use of handrails will be necessary.
Its curved perimeter not only refers to the recurring organic drawing of the natural encounter between beach and sea, but, in this case, to the hybridization of the typical linear path parallel to the sea and the perpendicular descending routes from the town center.
The great sea square. The design releases the maximum flat surface at its lowest level to allow the celebration of typically urban uses in a new characteristic environment that reinforces its identity. What happens so far inside, can begin to happen facing the sea: fairs, competitions, festivals …
Following the strategy +Altea, the proposal defines the implementation of 2 catalysts in the North and South ends that add complexity to this public space.
LIGHT (North Catalyst): We propose the creation of an interactive multimedia screen, which reacts with the presence and movement of users, or a perimeter system of RGB light beams.
FLAVOR (South Catalyst): We propose a kind of “aromatic” garden raised on the hill that will permeate the adjacent public space and that allude to the local cuisine. Rosemary, thyme…
